ACTIVITIES
Trips
and Visits
Trips
and visits linked to studies and for pleasure form an important part of our
curriculum. They are planned to enhance pupils’ learning by giving them first
hand experiences that are memorable and fun.
In
years five and six, children can visit residential centres, which offer a
variety of exciting and challenging opportunities to be shared with friends,
under qualified instruction and supervision, in a safe controlled environment.
Parents
are asked to contribute towards the cost of trips, but all transport is
subsidised from PTA funds.
Performances
We
encourage all our children to perform before an audience in regular school
productions. We want every child to be confident and to enjoy participating in
plays, musicals, concerts dance and eisteddfodau.
Sport
Pupils
from year 1 to year 6 are able to take part in a variety of sports including
football, rugby, netball, hockey, athletics, swimming, rounders and cricket.
Borderbrook
School hosts a sports fun day for neighbouring small schools each summer.
Cycling
Proficiency
Year
6 pupils take part in road safety training during the summer term. This is
provided free of charge by Wrexham Road Safety Department. Pupils are
tested on the Highway Code and road safety and in practical awareness and skill.
Successful candidates gain a Cycling Proficiency Certificate.
After
school clubs
A
wide range of After School Clubs is offered throughout the year.
Charities
In
addition to ‘Red Nose Day’ and ‘Children in Need’ we nominate one
charity each year which we support through sponsored events.
Visitors
We
welcome visitors from many walks of life and for many purposes. These visits
provide children with links to the wider community and a sense of their place
within it. We also welcome other professionals who visit to observe ‘good
practice’.
PTA
The
PTA meets regularly to plan and discuss events. Funds raised subsidise transport
costs and provide ‘extras’ to enrich the curriculum. Recent purchases
include webcam upgrades, digital video recorder and car booster seats to meet
the recent change in the law. All parents are automatically members and we
welcome members of the community who are keen to support their local school.
